Coastside Dentistry recently converted the radiographic
equipment to digital technology. While conventional X-rays
delivered a safe dosage of radiation, the new digital system
has several advantages:
- The radiation dosage is about one-third of what was conventionally delivered.
- The image is available instantly and does not require use of film or “environmentally unfriendly” chemical developers.
- The digital image is stored in the patient’s computer file and can be accessed instantly and sent via the internet for further evaluation or for insurance purposes.
Intra Oral Dental X-Ray
The intraoral radiograph produces images of individual teeth and checks for such things
as decay of the teeth, supporting bone loss, problems inside a tooth or under the gum
line.
Panoramic Dental X-Ray
The Panoramic Dental Radiograph can see possible tumors, developmental abnormalities,
poor tooth and root positions, skeletal defects and broken jaw bones. This type of
image is very easy obtain being taken outside the mouth, and requires only that a
patient remain still for several seconds.
Intra Oral Camera
This new technology allows for an image of a single tooth to be captured digitally. The
image can be very helpful in providing patients with a real, enlarged picture of their
own tooth which is helpful in understanding the cause of their own dental problem and
the rationale for proposed treatment. These images are also extremely beneficial in
documenting conditions to other specialists or insurance providers.
Digital Photography
While the use of photography is not new to dentistry, incorporating digital photography
into patient care has provided numerous benefits. Digital imaging allows patients to
see their own conditions clearly before treatment is begun which helps to clarify the
rationale and objective of various dental procedures. Photography also is an excellent
way to communicate with insurance companies, specialists, and laboratories involved in
the rendering of a patient’s treatment. Images are stored in a patient’s file and can
be electronically sent anywhere they are needed.
